The slewing drive usually consists of two parts: slewing support and slewing drive. The slewing support device connects the slewing part of the crane with the non-slewing part and provides the constraints required by slewing movement to ensure that the slewing part has particular activity. At the same time, it gives stable support for the slewing part to withstand the vertical load, horizontal load, and overturning moment from the slewing part. The rotary drive device is used to drive the rotary position relative to the non-rotary part to realize rotary movement.

The specifications for slewing drives and gears vary depending on the material the gear is composed of. However, a majority of the drives and gears commonly used are composed of steel and phosphor bronze. According to an extensive series of tests, chill-cast nickel-phosphor bronze ranked first in resistance to wear and deformation.

Types of Slewing Drive

According to the variable speed drive, the slewing drive form can be divided into type slewing drive and the slewing drive type worm gear and worm, inheriting the gear transmission characteristics. Worm gear and worm drive are both slewing drives that can be adapted to high-speed and low-speed applications. Regarding bearing capacity, performance is superior to the tooth worm gear and type. When an envelope worm drive is used, its bearing capacity, deformation resistance, and transmission have further improved rigidity. But the worm slewing drive is less efficient than the tooth slewing drive.

The slewing drive can be divided into open type and closed type according to the open division of slewing drive sub-mechanism. Usually, the available type structure is mainly used to apply harsh environments and short maintenance and maintenance cycles. The open-type structure is more convenient for inspection, maintenance, and maintenance of machine parts and replacement. The closed design can provide a more prolonged maintenance life cycle when the environmental conditions are not changing much and the environmental pollution level is below the medium level.

Mechanism Components of Slewing Drive

The Driver of Slewing Drive

In general, the slewing drive consists of the following three parts:

(1) Slewing drive's active machine, such as the electric motor in the electric industry, the hydraulic motor in a hydraulic drive (including hydraulic power source), internal combustion engine in internal combustion engine drive, etc.

(2) The transmission device of slewing drive mainly includes deceleration, reversing, and braking devices.

(3) The slewing drive's slewing pinion meshes with the large ring of teeth on the slewing support device to realize the slewing movement of the slewing part.

To ensure the reliable operation of the rotating machinery and prevent overload, it is generally necessary to install a limit torque limiter in the transmission system. Most active machines use electric motors, but most mobile slewing cranes use internal combustion engines. Slewing drive components are mostly gear (or needle wheel), but some cranes are driven by roller or rope traction.
